Weight:
- Baby’s weight usually will reduce slightly in the first 10 days of life and slowly increase after that.
- Birth weight doubles at about 4 month old, triples at 12 month old and quadruples at 24 month old
- During second year, average weight gain = approximately 0.25 cm per month
- After age 2 year, average annual gain until adolescence= approximately 2-3 Kg (5-7 lb)
Length / height:
- By end of first year increase about 50% height at birth
- Birth length doubles by 4 years, triples by 13 years
- During second year = increase about 12 cm (5 inches)
- After age 2 years, annual growth = approximately 5 cm per year
Head circumference:
Average head growth:
- 0-2 mo= approximately 0.5cm per week
- 2-6 mo = approximately 0.25 cm per week
Average total head growth:
- 0- 3 mo = 5cm
- 3-6 mo = 4cm
- 6-9 mo= 2 cm
- 9 mo-1 yr = 1cm
