How to manage Sore Nipple
- Stimulate pre-suckling milk ejection reflex
- Apply moist heat and massage before feeding.
- Begin each feeding on the least involved side.
- Frequent , short feeding
- Proper attachment, positioning and removal technique.
- Assure lips are flanged out.
- Apply breast milk to nipples before and after nursing.
- Dry/sun exposure.
- Avoid engorgement – nurse more frequent.
- Mild analgesic.
- Avoid irritating substances.
- Treatment for candidiasis.
- Dermatitis treatment
- Avoid plastic lining bra, pads and nylon bra

- DO NOT use a nipples shield.
- Cause nipple confusion
- reduces milk supply
