Mnemonic for erythema nodosum
Erythema nodosum is a painful and palpable erythematous nodular lesion. It can be found on anterior shin.
Causes of erythema nodosum = SI SIDE
S = Sarcoidosis
I = Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) – Crohn’s disease or ulcerative colitis
S = Streptococcus infection
I = Infection – such as tuberculosis, lepromatous leprosy, leptospirosis
D = Drugs – sulphonamides, oral contraceptive pills, dapsone
E = Everything else – BCG vaccination, Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE), Behcet’s syndrome
