Mnemonic for spontaneous pneumothorax
Causes of spontaneous pneumothorax = BELAMES
B = Bronchial cancer (rare)
E = Emphysema with rupture of bullae, usually in middle aged or elderly patient with generalized emphysema
L = Lung abscess
A = bronchial Asthma
M = Marfan’s syndrome
E = End stage fibrosis (rare)
S = Subpleural bullae rupture (usually in tall, healthy young male)
