Mnemonic for multiple sclerosis
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic inflammatory, autoimmune disorder of the central nervous system. It is a relapsing / remitting disorder in which there are multiple areas of demyelination within the brain and the spinal cord.
Features of multiple sclerosis = CURSED HIV
C = Cerebellar signs
U = Upper Motor Neuron Lesion (UMNL)
R = Retrobulbar neuritis
S = Spastic paresis
E = Euphoria
D = Dementia / Depression / Diplopia (double vision)
H = Horner’s syndrome
I = Incontinence
V = Vertigo / Vomiting
