Cockcroft–Gault Formula – Estimation of Renal Function

Creatinine Clearance (mL/min) = 140 – Age (years) x Weight (kg)

                                                     72 x Serum Creatinine (mg/dl)

Note:

  • • To convert serum creatinine from (micromol/litre) umol/l to mg/dl divide the above formula by 88.4
  • • For women multiply the above formula by 0.85

5 categories of renal function:

Creatinine clearance Stage of renal disease
> 75 mL/min Normal
50 – 74 mL/min Mild Renal Insufficiency
35 – 49 mL/min Moderate Renal Insufficiency
< 35 mL/min Severe Renal Insufficiency
on dialysis End-Stage Renal Disease
