Follow up:
Seems that endometriosis is a progressive disease, regular follow up should be emphasized. During follow up visit, review the symptoms and look for any recurrence of endometrioma.
Prognosis:
Conservative surgery commonly provides temporary relief of symptoms however recurrence seen in 75% of women after 2 years of surgery, hence conservative surgery with or without medical therapy cannot be considered as curative. For medical therapy alone, recurrence after 5th year of completion GnRH agonist treatment were 37% for minimal disease and 74% for severe. Recurrence rate for endometrioma may goes up to 30% following laparoscopic cystectomy. In women underwent radical surgery, the recurrence rate is between 5 – 10% especially if that take the oestrogen replacement therapy. Recurrence rate is high and no treatment available today has been shown to prevent this. Endometriosis is usually regress after menopause but may be persist during early menopause. Pregnancy is depends on the severity of the disease. Signs and symptoms generally regress with the onset of menopause but can usually be controlled during the reproductive years.
